The Sochi Winter Olympics are underway, and in a symbolic victory for the LGBT community Netherlands speedskater Ireen Wüst has been awarded a gold, though she does not consider herself a spokesperson for LGBT communities.

And I can also report that the Russian Police Choir have been awarded a gold in the Irony Deficit Hurdles for their rendition of Daft Punk’s get Lucky. You can watch it here.

Many people may think it's a strange choice of song for Russia's police force, but in the video video however, it seems that they seem to be getting into the groove as they bop along to Pharrell Williams summer classic hit. Since the video was uploaded on youtube is has grabbed an astronomical 1.6 million views. You can see some of the officers who remain wooden, whilst others seem to let themselves go int he rhythm of the disco groove. The video has been received as a well meaning joke, while some viewers have seen it as degrading the police force.

The choir has previously gained viral youtube recognition with their version of James Bond theme, Adele's song Skyfall. '

Fastcompany.com reported that Get Lucky' was a number one hit in many countries and it has broken Spotify's record as the most-streamed song in both the UK and the US. Get Lucky made it to the top 10 in over 28 countries and has achieved Gold and platinum in multiple nations

On the success of the song Pharrell Williams told MTVnews “I mean, I thought it would do good, I didn’t know it would be this; I didn’t know it would be breaking records across the board, I had no idea,”

Although many fans have interpreted the song as Disco track, Pharrell added that he doesn't know whether it is and suggested it sounds more like 'post'.
