London Fashion Week: NN Interviews 'Awakened' Designer Tinkilove
London Fashion & The Awakening Of Humanity
It's that time of the year again, where the creative bunch come out from under the rocks to showcase some of their talent to the world on a run way, for London Fashion Week . Neon Nettle caught up with up and coming fashion stylist Maria Katherina Richters last Sunday where she presented her unbelievable collection as Tinkilove for Fashions Finest down at The Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
If there was any designer that wowed the crowd it was her’s who showed a range of outfits made from non-toxic ink on organic recycled fabrics which to support organic agriculture. Her colourful work has with no doubt be carefully designed to catch the eye of the beholder and based upon the seven chakras. Quotes printed on garments stood out from the crowd stating “I am you, you are me, we are one”.
Miss Ritchers said: “This season I have used fully recycled fabrics, from clothes taken apart that I bought at a recycling factory.” She went on to say that: “I based the pattern on cutting on sacred geometry, the actual patterns, the energy blueprints, which everything in creation is based on.” With fashion as meaningful as this, I think it is safe to say this stylist is definitely one to watch out for!
NN.Hi Maria, how are you? Are you excited to showcase your work?
KR.Hi Sylvia I am good very excited but also very nervous! This collection is very special to me.
NN.Tell us a little bit about what you've been up to this year?
KR.It has been quite a journey for me since the start of the year. I realised I needed to get more help and started recruiting interns to help me. We were still living in Hendon and I only had space to work in our living room and literally converted the house into a studio for months until moving to our new home in Hampstead where I was able to have a little room to convert into a home studio. At some point there were around 5 interns coming to my home everyday and worked on my newest projects. It was a great experience.
NN.What is your collection about this year?
KR.I tend to chose my themes of my collections inspired by this magical but for some very confusing experience called Life and want to give a message out to people. This season I used fully recycled fabrics, from clothes taken apart that I bought at a recycling factory. I based the pattern cutting on sacred geometry, the actual patterns, the energy blueprints, which everything in creation is based on. Everything is based on a specific pattern; knowing those spiritual patterns unlocks the ability to make full practical use of it so that we can achieve our full potential: to become conscious, responsible creator beings in this world. The colours chosen were taken from the 7 Chakras, energy centres in our body in which energy flows through.
Blocked energy in our 7 Chakras can often lead to illness so it's important to understand what each Chakra represents. I painted some fabrics and really could get creative which is something that I am so passionate about. I feel this collection reflected more my personality.
NN.When did you first start taking an interest in fashion and what was the reason behind your interest?
KR.I was always painting and drawing since I can remember. I spent many hours a day doing that, which was my passion and hobby. I knew I was going to go into the creative direction professionally but wasn't sure what until I have don't a Foundation Course at Kingston University. I had a peek into the different creative professions and I really enjoyed fashion. I thought that making clothes and join it with my painting and creative vision it would be the perfect way to communicate to the world. I always had a fundamental desire and urge to help people in this world and I knew I needed to create a company to be able to help the best I can on a bigger scale.
NN.What is it you want to portray with you work?
KR. I want to portray the strength and spiritual power within our existence, the beauty and the hardships that make humanity and create magical collections representing the theme I chose and create a journey incorporating the right music to inspire people.
NN.Who are you influences?
KR.I have always been a fan of McQueen, however my garments are much more urban than his pieces. Since having done internships and Vivienne Westwood and Peter Pilotto who are masters in draping and asymmetric style pattern making I tend to be influenced by their work. Usually I just look around a bit to take inspiration by bits from anywhere that I see and like but I tend to design more intuitively and in the flow whatever is being channeled through that moment
NN.What is your Interpretation on the world, why do you think we are here and what is our purpose?
KR.I think that we have all come here on this earth to learn to help each other on our journey to grow, to become more aware, conscious and one with our soul. We all come from the same source and have had many lifetimes already, each time perfectly and intelligently orchestrated for us to be challenged and learn what we are supposed to within every difficult experience, as there is always an important lesson that will elevate our consciousness each time. We all have an inner calling and being true to oneself is the most important bit that will make it easier to follow our own inner map and know where to go next. Being uniquely you and learning the difference between ego-based reactions and soul based actions listening to our intuition.
NN.If you could describe your art in three words what would they be?
Conscious deep magic
NN.Where do you want to be in five years- what are your goals!?
KR.In 5 years time I want to see the company to have grown to be able to become a self-sufficient charity creating many projects aiding the spiritual education of men women and children around this world, being able to influence enough to make a greater difference, teaching love, save our animals and plant more trees.
